The right choice depends on how often and how quickly you need heat, not just upfront cost.

Sanitation: salt chlorination and beyond

Salt chlorine generators produce chlorine from dissolved salt in the water, which most owners find gentler on skin and eyes than traditional liquid or tablet chlorine while reducing the need to handle chemicals directly. They do require the salt cell to be replaced periodically and add a small amount of maintenance for cell cleaning. Some owners add supplemental UV or ozone systems to reduce overall sanitizer demand further, though these are add-ons rather than replacements for a primary sanitation system.

Automation and smart controls

Modern pool automation systems let you control pumps, heaters, lights, and water features from a phone app or wall panel, and schedule them to run automatically at the right times. This is useful beyond convenience — it helps run equipment at the most efficient times and reduces the chance of forgetting to turn something off.
