Pool Remodeling in Fort Worth and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
A pool remodel replaces the parts of an existing pool that have worn out or gone out of date. At Aqua MD we handle the whole scope in-house: chipping out the old interior, repairing the shell, resetting tile and coping, pouring or resurfacing the deck, upgrading pumps, filters, heaters and lighting, and adding water features or automation where it makes sense. Most Dallas-Fort Worth pools built in the 1980s and 1990s are now on their second or third remodel, and the majority of the pools we touch fall in that group.
Chip-out of the failing plaster and prep of the shell
Structural and bond beam repair where the gunite has cracked or spalled
New waterline tile and mosaic accents
New coping in travertine, natural stone, precast, or cantilever concrete
New interior finish — plaster, quartz, or pebble aggregate
Deck replacement, pavers, travertine, or a bonded overlay
Variable-speed pump, cartridge filter, salt system, heater, or heat pump
Color LED lighting and smart automation
Water features: waterfalls, sheer descents, bubblers, deck jets, spillover spas
Start-up, water balancing, and a written care plan for the new finish
Signs your pool is ready for a remodel
The interior feels rough underfoot or stains keep coming back after acid washing
Tile is falling off the waterline or the grout line is opening up
Coping stones are loose, cracked, or the mastic joint has failed
The deck is heaving, cracking, or too hot to walk on in July
The pump runs on a single speed and the electric bill shows it
Plumbing or the equipment pad has been patched more than once
The pool simply looks like the decade it was built in
What a pool remodel costs in DFW
Cost tracks scope, not square footage alone. A straightforward resurfacing on an average residential pool is the entry point, a resurfacing plus tile and coping package sits in the middle, and a full renovation with new decking, equipment, and outdoor living work is the top end. Structural repair, hard access for equipment, and premium finishes move the number. We give a line-item written estimate so you can see exactly which item drives which dollar and remove or phase anything you want to defer.
How long a remodel takes
Resurfacing alone is usually 7 to 10 working days from drain to refill. Resurfacing with tile and coping runs about 2 to 3 weeks. A full remodel with decking and equipment is typically 3 to 6 weeks. Outdoor kitchens, pavilions, and structural repairs are quoted on their own schedule. Cold, rain, and freeze days pause plaster and concrete work, so we build a buffer into every calendar we hand you.
Structural repair on older North Texas pools
North Texas clay moves. That movement shows up as bond beam cracks, separated coping, deck heave, and hairline cracks in the shell. We repair the structure before any finish goes on, because a new interior applied over a moving or delaminated substrate will fail early. This is the part of the job most homeowners never see and the part that decides how long the remodel lasts.
Choosing your interior finish
White plaster is the least expensive and the shortest lived. Quartz adds hardness and color retention for a moderate step up. Pebble and mini pebble finishes are the most durable and the most popular choice on our remodels, with a longer service life and colors that hold. We bring samples to the estimate and show you finished pools in your area whenever we can.
Equipment and automation during a remodel
A remodel is the cheapest time to modernize the pad, because the pool is already down and the plumbing is already open. Variable-speed pumps cut run cost substantially over a single-speed motor, cartridge filters reduce backwash waste, and a controller lets you run pumps, heat, lights, and features from your phone. We also replace and install gas heaters and energy-efficient heat pumps at this stage.
Residential and commercial pools
We remodel private backyard pools and commercial pools alike — HOA, apartment, hotel, and community pools — with scheduling and staging planned around the property's season and occupancy.

FAQ
Pool Remodeling — questions we hear most
Straight answers on cost, timeline, materials, and what to expect.
How much does a pool remodel cost in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?
+
It depends on scope. Interior resurfacing alone is the least expensive path, adding tile and coping raises it, and a full renovation with new decking, equipment, and outdoor living work is the highest. Structural repair, access difficulty, and finish selection are the biggest swing factors. We provide a free written line-item estimate after seeing the pool so you know exactly what each element costs.
How long does a pool remodel take?
+
Resurfacing alone is generally 7 to 10 working days. Resurfacing with tile and coping is about 2 to 3 weeks. A complete remodel with decking and equipment usually runs 3 to 6 weeks. Weather is the most common reason a schedule shifts, since plaster and concrete work cannot be done in rain or freezing temperatures.
Do I need a permit to remodel my pool?
+
Cosmetic work such as resurfacing and tile usually does not require a permit, while structural changes, new decking in some jurisdictions, electrical work, and gas lines often do. Requirements vary by city across DFW. We handle permitting when the scope calls for it.
Can I remodel my pool in the winter?
+
Yes, and winter is often the best time to schedule. Demolition, tile, coping, and decking all proceed in cool weather, and booking in the off-season means your pool is ready when the season starts. We do pause plaster application during hard freezes.
Should I resurface or do a full remodel?
+
If the only complaint is a rough or stained interior, resurfacing is usually enough. If the tile, coping, deck, or equipment are also dated or failing, a remodel costs less than doing those pieces separately later, because the pool only has to be drained and staged once.
